Under the auspices of a mountain
Crafting wines that speak with a sense of place
The landscape surrounding Mount Difficulty boasts some of Central Otago’s oldest and most revered vineyard sites, and since the early 1990s, the home of this namesake wine label. This unique region of extreme microclimates is especially suited to growing grape varietals such as Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris. Yet as a pioneering winery, Mt Difficulty continues to push the limits of what they are capable of, with experimental plantings of Chenin Blanc and Syrah.
With a winemaking philosophy centred around ethical viticulture and minimal intervention, these wines are grown and crafted with intention to express a true sense of place. Under the Mt Difficulty brand you’ll also find the Roaring Meg label, a range of easy-drinking, fruit-driven style of wines featuring Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc.
